Why Oaxaca

A place with deep roots and a lot of life

Oaxaca is one of the most culturally rich states in Mexico. Its food, its crafts and its celebrations are part of everyday life, from the streets of the capital to the fishing towns of the coast.

    Culture

    Food, craft and celebration

Markets, mezcal, textiles, music and festivals that are part of daily life, not a show for visitors.

    Nature

    Sea, lagoons and mountains

Pacific beaches, mangrove lagoons and green hills, all within a short drive of each other.

    Community

    The people who make it

Fishermen, cooks, artisans and builders keep the region alive. Living here means getting to know them and buying local.

The city

Oaxaca, a morning's drive from the coast

Our projects are on the coast, but life here doesn't end at the beach. Over the mountains is Oaxaca de Juárez, the state capital: green-stone streets, markets, galleries and some of the best food in Mexico. It's where people from the coast go for a weekend of culture, a festival or a long lunch.

  • A historic center on UNESCO's World Heritage List since 1987, together with Monte Albán
  • Markets like 20 de Noviembre and Benito Juárez, a short walk from the zócalo
  • The Guelaguetza each July, when communities from across Oaxaca share their music and dances

A street in Jalatlaco at night, with papel picado and lanterns

Jalatlaco is one of the city's oldest barrios, and above all, it's home: families, workshops and small businesses that have kept its cobblestone streets alive for generations. The best way to know it is slowly, on foot, buying from the people who live there.

The projects

Three projects, one coast

Cali Construction Mexico is developing projects on the Oaxaca coast designed around a calmer way of living: rest, care, sport and time outdoors, close to the sea.

The place

Lagoon, hills and the Pacific

This stretch of the Oaxaca coast is more than beach. Lagoons and mangroves, farmland and the foothills of the Sierra Sur sit side by side. It is a living, working landscape, cared for by the communities who have been here for generations.

  1. Aerial view of a coastal lagoon surrounded by dry forest, with the Pacific Ocean on the horizon

    Coast and lagoon

Where the lagoon meets the sea

Lagoons and mangroves run along the shore. They are home to birds and fish, and to the families who fish and guide boats on them. Living near the water means respecting it, and the rules that protect it.

  2. Aerial view of a green valley with fields, a small village and mountains under a cloudy sky

    Valley and mountains

    Green hills, working land

Inland, the land rises toward the mountains. Between the hills there are small farms, orchards and villages, and much of what is eaten on the coast is grown here.

  3. Low tropical forest covering the hills, with a palapa-roofed shelter among the trees
The dry-season view is a color edit of the same photo, to show the change.

    Forest

Green in the rains, golden in the dry months

From roughly June to October the rains turn the low forest deep green. In the dry season it turns brown and opens up. Life here follows those seasons, and so does building.
